About the Event
You are invited to celebrate Tibetan New Year (Losar) “Year of the Metal Ox”, with Lama Tendar at the Medicine Buddha Centre.
In Tibetan Buddhist tradition, during Losar, it is customary to visit the Temple, pay homage to Buddha, to Lama, to your Teachers; make offerings to our teachers in gratitude for teaching us the path to enlightenment, request their blessings, teachings and personal advice.
This is a great opportunity for our Sangha to accumulate pure merit by making prostrations, offerings, requesting, beseeching, rejoicing and dedicating on the occasion of Losar.
2020 was a particularly challenging year for the whole international community. It is important as a Sangha, to focus our prayers in cultivating positive healing energy to heal the world and dedicate our prayers for World Peace. This is the time to let go of the old and bring in new, fresh energy for the New Year.
SATURDAY 13th FEBRUARY
Losar Celebrations for all of our Sangha Members
2 PM
On the second day of Losar, Lama Tendar will give a teaching and bestow a blessing from the Buddha statue which was a gift from His Holiness Dalai Lama, to our Centre during our 2017 visit to His Holiness’ Temple in Dharamsala.
This was a very rare occasion, to receive such a personal gift from His Holiness. It is not believed to happen very much at all. Even big monasteries in India are not as fortunate. Once a year, usually at Losar, Lama Tendar bestows this blessing to all those in attendance.
This will be followed by a short teaching by Lama Tendar, on “The Precious Human Life” and how to maintain it through the practice of “Accumulation of Pure Merit and Wisdom and Fortune”.
Lama Tendar will then be making Tsog Offering to all the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, dakas and dakinis, protectors and defenders of the Dharma.
Lama will offer prayers of well-being for the world to be free of sickness and disease. You can also dedicate prayers for family members and for the deceased.
This is a wonderful opportunity to make offerings of flowers, incense, candles, butter lamps, perfume, and sweets for the Tsog offering (Tsog zi).
If you would like to bring along a kata, you will have the opportunity make an offering directly to Lama Tendar for Losar and receive a personal blessing from him. The kata is blessed by Buddha and Lama Tendar and is yours to keep and take home to place on the altar.
Katas and envelopes will be available at the Centre if you do not have one.
This is a very special once a year event. We invite everyone to come along.
Please bring a plate to share with everyone afterwards to celebrate Losar.
Time: 2pm (this will be available on Zoom)
Venue: 132 Kars St, Frankston South, VIC 3199 or via Zoom.
