Shantideva Buddhist Foundation
The Shantideva Buddhist Foundation is a registered charity and the charitable arm of the Medicine Buddha Centre. Its primary mission is to support the growth and development of Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism in Australia.
The Foundation works to fulfil this mission by undertaking the rigorous and often complex process of bringing highly trained monks and nuns to Australia to teach authentic Buddhadharma. This includes supporting both short-term teaching visits and applications for permanent relocation.
Candidates for this program are those who have received traditional monastic training in the Dharma within the monasteries of Tibet and/or India, and who have cultivated exceptional qualities of love, compassion, moral discipline, and wisdom.
These individuals are recognised as Vajra Master - men and women who are highly spiritually developed and possess
the highest levels of training and experience.
It is Lama Tendar’s vision that, with the guidance and
support of these highly qualified monastic teachers, the Buddha’s teachings will continue to florish with pure intention and integrity in Australia for the benefit of future generations.
The Foundation also supports the fulfilment of Lama Tendar future growth masterplan to establish a retreat centre in peaceful natural surroundings, providing an environment
for students to undertake both short and long-term retreats under the supervision of highly qualified teachers.
The name Shantideva is inspired by the great Nalanda
master Shantideva, author of the revered text 'A Guide to
the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life. 'This timeless work has inspired generations of Tibetan Mahayana practitioners to cultivate Bodhichitta - the awakened mind of compassion- dedicated to relieving the suffering of all beings.
