An Invitation to Support an Important Tibetan Buddhist Initiative
Dear Friends, Supporters and Members of Our Sangha,
The Shantideva Buddhist Foundation Ltd is pleased to announce an important fundraising
initiative to help bring a highly qualified Tibetan Buddhist nun to Australia and share her
knowledge, skills and experience with our community.
Our fundraising goal is $40,000, which will assist with the costs associated with bringing her
to Australia, including professional immigration advice, travel and other essential expenses
involved in establishing her here.
Why is this important?
This initiative is about much more than bringing one person to Australia. It is about
preserving knowledge, supporting education and ensuring that Tibetan Buddhist culture and
traditions can be shared authentically with future generations.
This brings much needed support to Lama Tendar.
The nun (Ani Drolka) we are seeking to support has an Acharia Degree from the Central
Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies in Varanasi, representing a very high level of training in
Buddhist philosophy and Tibetan studies. She also has specialised knowledge of Sanskrit and
is skilled in teaching the Tibetan language. These are valuable and increasingly uncommon
skills that can make a significant contribution to Buddhist communities and students in
Australia.
Her knowledge would benefit monks, nuns and lay practitioners who wish to deepen their
understanding of Tibetan Buddhism, Tibetan language and Buddhist literature. She would
also contribute to the preservation and transmission of knowledge that is an important part
of Tibet's spiritual and cultural heritage.
Supporting Tibetan Cultural Exchange Australia
Our recent experience organising the Tibetan Healing Art Culture Festival in Flinders on the
Mornington Peninsula has made the Foundation even more aware of the importance of
increasing understanding of Tibetan culture in Australia.
Tibetan culture is a minority culture within Australia, and there are limited opportunities for
the broader community to encounter its traditions, language, philosophy, art and heritage in
an informed and authentic way. The festival demonstrated the strong interest that exists,
but it also highlighted an important need: we need people with genuine knowledge and
expertise to help present and preserve Tibetan culture and traditions.
Bringing a highly trained Tibetan Buddhist nun to Australia would help address this need.
Her contribution could extend well beyond formal Buddhist study, providing opportunities
for cultural education, language learning, discussion, teaching and greater understanding of
Tibetan traditions.
Your contribution can make this possible.
We are asking our community to come together to help us reach our $40,000 fundraising
target.
Every contribution, large or small, will help.
By contributing, you are helping to:
Support the preservation and transmission of Tibetan Buddhist knowledge.
Provide access to Tibetan language and Buddhist literature.
Support the education of monks, nuns and lay practitioners.
Increase awareness and understanding of Tibetan culture in Australia.
Help create opportunities for authentic cultural and educational exchange.
Strengthen the continuation of Tibetan Buddhist traditions for future generations.
This is an opportunity for our community to invest not only in an individual, but in the
knowledge, culture and traditions that she represents and can share with others.
We warmly invite you to join us in making this initiative possible. With the support of our
community, we hope to reach our $40,000 goal and welcome her to Australia.
Together, we can help preserve knowledge, support education and create greater
understanding of Tibetan Buddhist culture within Australia.
With gratitude for your generosity and support.
